Early 20th century English carved oak blanket box (also called a mule chest or coffer) with a drawer, in the Jacobean style.
This chest has a hinged lid that opens to a generous storage space, ideal for blankets, bedding, linen, toys or games. The front has a carved frieze of scrolling foliate decoration above two plain panels divided by a central upright.
Below is a full-width drawer with moulded edging and two decorative drop ring handles in an antique brass finish with ornate backplates.
The wood is a warm, medium golden brown with attractive oak grain, and the lid overhangs the body slightly.
Width 91cm x depth 45 x height 60cm
Very good vintage condition with an attractive aged patina. Finish is softly worn across the front panels, see photos. Structurally sound. Additional photos or a video are available on request.
